I certainly understand that this is not a modeling article and this IS a modeling website. But this information can be exceedingly helpful to any of those interested in blogging and seeking to earn a profit from it; or even make a living from it.
Recently, I was speaking to one of my mentors pertaining to leadership and the online world (blogging, online marketing, social media, etc.) and I asked him “What is the number one piece of advice you would share with a recently new blogger looking to do what you have done (earn a full-time income from blogging)?” I was inquiring more or less for my own interests, but found the information adaptable to everyone. So I thought I would share his answer. This is what he said:
“Well it is pretty easy, I was just thinking about this the other day actually – I was wondering what parts really helped make a difference [in the beginning], and it all revolved around connecting with people.
So for me, I quickly connected with a bunch of people in my niche by commenting on their blogs and emailing them when I could help, etc. From that developed a network of about 10 bloggers – which was pretty helpful in the beginning.
But regardless if a network never develops for you, just try to think of ways to connect with others in your niche – then try to take it to the next level by interviewing them or guest posting for them, etc.
I just thought of something else that was pretty helpful for my wife. She did a blogger map of all the people in her niche just using a Google map that she embedded on her site. She added people for free for the 1st couple years then started charging because there were too many people wanting on. Take a look:
It worked out pretty well for her because she had a reason to reach out to other bloggers that would actually benefit them – so that may be an idea for you to run with at some point for your niche…
But as far as building the blog – find ways to guest post on related websites. You almost have to establish a connection with someone before they will let you, because we are inundated with millions of spammy guest post requests, but if you can, this is the best and quickest way to grow a blog and a following.”
These are the words of Bob Lotich of ChristianPF.com, a Christian mentor helping me grow my blog and possibly earn a living while doing so. In the end, it seems one thing is binding for blogs to grow quickly and large and that is connecting with other bloggers through comments, emails, and guest posts, etc. In a sense, you are creating a network of other bloggers who are willing to promote you, your blog, your products, whatever have you, and you will do the same for them. It is as the great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar says, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
