Hello there Everyone,Jonah Taylor in Drew Xeron Photography

My name is Jonah Levi Taylor and I was born on April 23, 1985. I grew up in the small town of Zeeland, Michigan. I currently live in Baltimore, Maryland, due to some wonderful opportunities and a special lady named Jennifer (my Wife). I continue to model regularly along the East Coast, while traveling for jobs here and there. I am also wrapping up my Bachelors degree in Sports Management and Marketing. At the moment, I am blessed to work alongside Nate Costa, owner of the elite training facility “FX studios,” which has partnered up with Under Armour to train their professional athletes at UA’s headquarters in Baltimore.

Esquire photograph of model Jonah Tayor in D'urban suitSchool has made me a credible writer and that is one of the reasons, other than helping others to follow their dreams, why I started this blog. I have made friends and connections all over the world, though none surpass the friends and family I have back in Michigan and here in Baltimore. They truly are a blessing and I thank the Lord for them everyday. I started my journey toward becoming a model at the age of 19 with no experience or background. Honestly, I knew nothing about becoming a model. After 7 years of small steps and many leaps of faith, I have done it, and continue to do it. The best part is, that since I did it, you can too. I am not special. I am the average American guy, but due to my faith and passion, it all happened better than I could have hoped for.

Some of my travels included a three-month stay in Beijing with an agency named Absolut. It was incredible seeing the Great Wall of China and modeling inside the Olympic Stadium of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I was excited to perform many jobs there as it was a good kick-start to my portfolio and modeling career. A few months later I got the chance to travel to Taipei, Taiwan, where I lived for four months with an agency named V&L. It was there that I shot for Esquire and Pierre Cardin, as well as many commercials for Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Blackberry, and Wrigley’s Gum. From there I went to Seoul, South Korea, where I lived for two months and shot for fashion lines such as Dolce & Gabana, and campaigned for Levi’s. I also spent much time in Hong Kong and Japan modeling for numerous types of jobs. Hong Kong was my favorite of all my travels. That brings us up to date, here in the Baltimore/D.C area where I have recently done runway for Macy’s, Nordstrom, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Neiman Marcus. I have used my personal training background to gain many agencies and clients in the world of fitness modeling as well. I have always had a passion for fitness and acting, and that brought me to modeling. Modeling took off and now I can’t get enough of it; though I still pursue fitness and acting as regular hobbies.

    Hi, Jonah.

Thank you for your blog. I dabbled with commercials, music videos, etc as an actor (background actor mostly) in the 90’s. I’m starting to get back into it and want to take it to the next level. Modeling itself is pretty new to me, but I have 2 print jobs now.

It’s great to find a modeling site that’s not skanky and with a man’s perspective. Thanks again.

Hi Jonah, I am a 19 year male college student and just stumbled on your website while researching modeling options. Like you in the beginning, I have no previous experience but live in Atlanta and several times a month get approached about modeling. I met with a photographer last fall and we made some great shots in an alley. I did not charge him nor did I get any photos out of the shoot. I think it was a “test” shoot. I am clueless about how to charge them or if I should with my lack of experience. I attend a private college and would love to help my folks out a bit by contributing to my education if I had the means through modeling. I am inspired by your comments of how your faith plays a significant role now and in the past in your career path. Best of luck to you.

      Hello Taylor,
It does sound like a test shoot and in test shoots, no one gets paid, You can learn more about the ins and outs of test shoots in our Article: http://modelingwisdom.com/?s=test+shoots. When it comes to hiring a photographer, the model pays for the service, not the photographer. So as a model, test shoots are likely going to be the cheapest way to get photos (just be careful of who you work with).

Faith is the major contributor in all that I do. Even modeling now for UnderArmour and hopefully soon for Men’s Health, Faith in God is How It All Happens! Keep it up and let me know if you have any further questions!

    Hi Jonah,
I like your work, the whole package you have for modeling within you. Keep Moving bro.
Well I’m a 20 year old male model in Uganda with a 1year experience, managed to work with a few aspiring designers in my country and featured in one t.v commercial. I really want and dream to make it big in modeling, I would like you to advice me on how to land on nice reputable gigs(outside my country) as you did.

Hey there Arnold, here is what I would do if I was in your shoes. I would compile all of my pics and resume together in an email package and start submitting it to modeling agencies around the world, or in areas that you know you would like to work. I would also recommend you pray a lot as this always seems to help (at least it did wonders for me;) Keep sending the package out until you hear some good news from an agency of your choice.

Try this and see what happens! Peace and Blessings!

Hey Tyrone! Great to hear from you brother:) If you are referring to, the Ultimate Fitness Modeling Blueprint then no, there is no monthly fee:) We do offer monthly coaching on all aspects of modeling if you are interested in this for as little as $36/ month. The UFMB, however, is a one time purchase for everything you will ever need to become a big time fitness model!

God bless and hope to hear soon from you Tyrone!

    Hi Mr. Taylor,
First, I wanted to tell you that I have found your blog to be very educational. Thank you! Secondly, I just wanted to make you aware of a small typo in your bio (I hope you understand that I’m not criticizing you in any way, it’s just that I know I would want someone to tell me if it were me). In the first paragraph the letter “A” was accidentally omitted in the word “along.” It reads: “to model regularly long the east coast,” instead of “along the East Coast.” (Also, East Coast should be capitalized since it’s being used as a proper noun!) Again, I hope I’m not being too annoying!
We live in Ellicott City, Maryland (outside Baltimore) and I was wondering if you could recommend some good agencies in this area (for my 16 year old son). He actually was a “fit” model for Under Armour when he was younger, but he got that job when a friend (working for UA) called looking for a boy with VERY specific measurements–so we didn’t go through an agency, or anything like that.
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for taking the time to read this!
    Sincerely, Virginia Slack
PS I know it’s not up to me, but you don’t need to post this. 🙂

What an incredible story. What is also amazing is how humble and grateful you are. I have been a full-time actor and commercial model for over 30 years. I know how difficult it is to get work.

The way you went about getting the work seemed like you do so many things right.

    Just wanted to say congratulations.
