Male Model Requirements! – Discover What It takes To Be A Male Model! In a world where female models steal the show, male models often times go unnoticed. Many male models make it big but never get noticed like their female counterparts. Even though they don’t get all the publicity that female supermodels do, they are still an essential part of the modeling world. When it comes to male modeling, if you are going to make it big, you got to have a few things going for you; you have to meet a few of the following male modeling requirements:
- First off, if you are thinking of becoming a male model, you will be expected to be in good shape. This is because they will be expected to model shirtless from time to time and great abs can help sell anything. Male models are deceivingly fit. They appear skinny in clothing, but muscular when shirtless. They key is to be strong, but not overly strong. Male models will still be expected to fit into a 40 regular jacket. So if you think you have what it takes to be a male model, make sure you are in great shape. (If you need help with this, do not hesitate to check out No Nonsense Muscle Building by Vince Del Monte).
- For runway, male models need to be at least 5’11” and can be as tall as 6’2″ with strong features. These men on average will be skinnier than most other male models. This is for the same reason as for women, the clothes fit and drape as if on a hanger. General weight for men is roughly 175 lbs or less.
- Male models will generally get their start in their late teens (16 – 18) and can model into their latter years (sometimes into their forties). This is unlike women who start earlier and are considered “past their prime” by their mid twenties. Male models should have a strong look and good skin. - Generally, bigger cities have bigger modeling markets. So the bigger the city you live in, the better chance you have of getting modeling jobs. Some of the biggest modeling cities in the USA are New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angels and even Toronto, Canada (read more on Top Modeling Cities in US). But if you are in one of these cities, remember, this also means more competition.
So if you think you have what it takes to be a male model, check to see if you have any of these characteristics; If you have a great body, fit into a 40 regular jacket, are between 5’11” and 6’2″, have good skin and live in a bigger city, then you have a great chance at becoming a male model. You definitely do not have to have all these characteristics, but the more you do, the easier your modeling experience will be. Some of them you can change, such as physique, some you must live with, like height. But in the end, be confident and keep trying. Like any job, sometimes it just takes time to get to where you want to be.
